From the time you board the schooner "FRIENDLY" for your Door County Sailing Adventure, you'll see from the smile on Captain Bruce Bishop's face that he is doing something he truly loves. That enthusiasm will accompany you as you set sail toward the islands off the shoreline of Fish Creek. Safety is always the first priority aboard the vessel, and the Captain's experience will assure you of that.
Captain Bruce has been sailing for more than 30 years and has been a licensed United States Coast Guard Captain for 30 years.
In addition to sailing the waters of Door County for a lifetime, he has logged thousands of sea miles on such bodies of water as the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, all the Great Lakes, the Intercoastal Waterway, the Mississippi River, the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Carribbean Sea. No need to worry about pirates — Bruce is an accomplished Martial Arts instructor in several different styles, as well. Bruce has been a teacher, tug boat captain, sailing instructor, a Merchant Mariner on Great Lakes freighters and the First Officer on several private mega-yachts. He is also an American Sailing Association Instructor certified in the following categories:
In the off-season Bruce teaches U.S. Coastguard Captain's training classes as a Certified Instructor Examiner. Visit the Captain's License Training page for information on class times and details. He also contracts with private yacht owners for worldwide yacht delivery.
After all this, he finds the most joy in introducing people to a relaxing and informative sail aboard his schooner, FRIENDLY.
The Schooner FRIENDLY sails twice daily from Fish Creek at Noon and at sunset. Trips are approximately 2 hours long. Please, click for information about rates.
